Timing belts are the item we are asked about most on Alfa Romeo, and they are the one you do not put off. The belt interval is set by time as well as mileage, and on a low-mileage car the years come round first. Variator wear on the twin cam engines is the other well-known point, usually announcing itself as a rattle from the top of the engine when cold. We check for it rather than wait for it. Beyond that we look at suspension bushes, brakes, cooling and the electrical gremlins that come with age.
