Are you looking for MOT London for your vehicle?

Every vehicle must undergo the MOT test annually upon completing three years of registration. Drivers must have a valid VT20 certificate to drive their cars legally in the UK. This test includes a thorough check of the car components, such as brakes, emission levels, suspension, lights, etc., to ensure the environmental friendliness and roadworthiness of the car.

White Rose Motors is one of the DVSA authorised service stations to MOT London. Our certified testers use advanced machinery to conduct the inspection accurately. We provide reliable and affordable MOT Finchley for Class 4 and 7 vehicles.

Why is MOT important?

Driving a car in the United Kingdom without a valid MOT certificate can lead to hefty penalties. Furthermore, vehicle owners with failed MOT certificates cannot transfer/sell their cars or renew the road taxes.

Class 4 vehicles:

  • Ambulance
  • 3 wheelers (more than 450 kg unladen weight)
  • Cars (with up to 8 seats)
  • Motor caravans
  • Dual-purpose vehicles
  • Ambulances
  • Taxis
  • Goods vehicles (up to 3000 kg design gross weight)

Class 7: All vehicles with a DGW of over 3000 kg up to 3500 kg fall under this category.

What does our MOT check London, Finchley entail?

Firstly, our DVSA approved testers will check the MOT history of your vehicle to identify persisting issues, if any. Next, they will inspect the following components:

Steering wheel column

We check the steering wheel column and ensure the steering arm, angles, etc., are in proper condition to ensure your on-road driving safety. Any issue in the steering column will jeopardise the control over the car and make you vulnerable to several on-road mishaps.

Registration plate

Our experts will check the condition of the car number plates and ensure that the numbers are visible.

Indicators and hazard lights

During the MOT, the testers will also check the headlamps, brake lights, hazard indicators, etc., to ensure they are working optimally.

Braking system

An adequately functioning braking system is necessary to ensure optimal on-road driving safety and car control. Hence, we will check the braking system thoroughly and check for damaged or worn-out discs, brake pads, rotors, etc.

Exhaust and emissions

Exhaust emissions play a crucial role in deciding the result of the car MOT London, Finchley . If the emission levels are within the acceptable limit, we will issue a VT20 certificate. Otherwise, we will provide a VT30 certificate. We will inspect the oxygen sensors, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, etc.

Shock absorbers

Shock absorbers are essential to maintain vehicle suspension health and improve driving comfort. Damaged or worn-out shock absorbers will lead to an uncomfortable and bumpier driving experience. During our MOT London, Finchley, we will check the shock absorbers and their performance levels thoroughly.

Wheels and tyres

Our testers will check if the tyre tread depth is at least 1.6mm and the tyre conditions are adequate to be roadworthy as per the legal guidelines. Furthermore, we will also inspect wheel rims and ensure they do not affect its manoeuvrability.

Apart from these, we also check:

  • Wipers and windshield
  • Mirrors
  • Fuel tank
  • Seats and seatbelts
  • Overall vehicle condition, etc.

MOT certification

VT20: We will issue this certificate if all the car components function optimally and are roadworthy per legal guidelines. VT20 certification is the MOT pass certificate.

VT30: We issue the MOT fail or VT30 certificate if the car components are not working optimally, affecting overall vehicle performance.

Classification of the issues

Based on severity, the three categories of issues are:

  • Dangerous
  • Major
  • Minor

If your vehicle has Dangerous or Major issues, we provide a VT30 certificate instantly. Otherwise, we issue a VT20 or an MOT pass certificate.

Questions we get asked

How much is an MOT?

An MOT with us is £45. We are DVSA approved and test in our own MOT bay on site, so the car does not need to go elsewhere. If a service is due at the same time, the MOT is free with a Full Service when you quote the code freeMOT, and a Full Service starts from £225 + VAT.

Which MOT classes do you cover?

We are approved for Class 4 and Class 7. Class 4 covers cars, most small vans and similar vehicles, and Class 7 covers heavier goods vans, which is why we can look after company vans and mixed fleets as well as family cars. If you are unsure which applies to your vehicle, tell us the registration and we will confirm it.

How long does an MOT take?

Allow around an hour for the test itself, though the time your car is with us depends on how busy the bay is and whether other work is being done at the same visit. If you are having a service as well, plan on the car being with us for the day. We are open seven days a week, so it is usually easy to find a day that suits.

What happens if my car fails?

We tell you exactly what failed, show you the reason and give you a price to put it right before anything is done. Nothing gets repaired without your say-so. Because the workshop is on the same site, most failures can be corrected here and the car retested without moving it. If you would rather take it elsewhere, that is fine too.

Can I really get a free MOT?

Yes. Have a Full Service with us and the £45 MOT is included at no charge on the same visit. Quote the code freeMOT when you get in touch so it goes on the job from the start. It applies to the vehicle being serviced and cannot be swapped for money off other work.
